Challahback Girl

Oy! Such a goyishe punum, but what a yiddishe tam!

I know what you're thinking. "Gee Avi, it sure would be swell if someone were to make a mash up of Gwen Stefani's Hollaback Girl and Frank Yankovick's Hava Nagila!" Well, guess what kids? Your prayers have been answered! djbc: The Boston Mash-up Project have created two versions for your listening pleasure - there is the Orthodox cut (mp3) and the Reform cut (mp3) . I apologize to the Conservatives and Reconstructionists in the house. Sorry you were left out. So much for pluralism.

Arts and Culture Retreat

A city-wide Arts and Culture Retreat, brought to you by Hillel of Greater Toronto! Here's the poster. It features our regular reader Snoopy, in an image that I snapped three years ago.

We are expecting about 25 people - maybe even more. Members of the York University acapella team Kol Neshama will be there, as will U of T's The Varsity Jews. Workshops will be run by our casual SoR reader, Noam, as well as myself, Rachel Mallach of The Varsity Jews, and Dan Abramson.

One-time commenter Ben-Zi has blown $200 of Hillel's money on booze and junk food. We'll be sharing the facilities (but not the booze) with York's Jewish Education department. it promises to be one helluva time.

Check back in a little while for pictures.

Registration is pretty full, so give it up. At $60 for two nights accomodation, programming, food, and transportation, this is the sweetest deal you'll ever set your eyes on.

Thank you to the U of T Arts and Culture committee for helping make this event a reality. That includes a big shout-out to Dan, the wizard behind the curtain.

We will rock you

50
Guess who's back? That's right ladies and gents, after a one month hiatus, the Shul of Rock has returned. As the chief editor at the S of R, I'd like to say hi to all of the old shool readers, and wish a happy hello to all the new ones joining us. Get ready for one hell of a ride. Fifty incredible posts, and we're still going strong. Get ready for more news, opinions, comedy, and incredible pictures. With Friends of the Shul (FOTS) spread out around the world, you'll be getting lively commentary in the comments sections, interesting guest bloggers making posts, and a constant flow of pictures that will make your jaws drop. And if that isn't enough, we will be resuming the popular Dr. Love Advice Column. If Barry and I break the procrastination cycle, we may even finally get around to making Shul of Rock merch.

In other news:

- Joey Lightstone, a proud FOTS, was drafted into the Israeli Defense Forces today. Be safe, and have a Happy Birthday tommorow, Yoseph. We are all thinking of you.

- Barry is currently playing Santa's little helper at a local Toronto mall. That's going to make a great bar story a couple of years from now.

- This blog is currently listed on the BlogShare stock exchange. Register now, and you get $500 in fake money. Whoo-hoo!

- Snoopy is featured in an ad for this year's Toronto Hillel Arts and Culture retreat, and he had no idea until he read this sentence!

- I may or may not be coming to Israel this winter. I am supposed to find out in a matter of hours. If I am not accepted on the organized (and subsidized) trip, I am looking to travel to Gulfport, Mississippi to aid in hurricane relief. If any other Ontarians are interested in taking part, please visit HillelToronto.org
