Me and You and Everyone We Know

Every couple of years, a film comes along that just blows my mind.

I just had the pleasure – no, the privilege, of watching Me and You and Everyone We Know (2005). It is the directorial debut of Miranda July. I remembered seeing a trailer for it a long while back. Since then, it has garnered 15 awards, including the ‘Golden Camera’ from Cannes, and the Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.

It is an original, riveting presentation of life, human relationships, and real people. I could not look away. It takes those small moments that other films try so hard to achieve, and instead stretches them across the entire breadth of the film.

It is a must see for anyone that cares about art, cinema, or just the human capacity to experience a moment in its fullest sense. I have included the trailer below. Please give the film a chance. It deserves your attention.

Jewish Girl Gangsta Rappers

Miriam and Shoshana are two Jewish girls that know how to get down. When they aren't rapping or spray painting walls, you can find them lighting the Shabbos candles and chugging Manishewitz. Watch their video below! It's great. It pretty much embodies the Shul of Rock attitude.

Looking for a freebie?

I recently noticed that a huge amount of traffic has been pouring into the Shul, in search of the movie Beerfest. I wrote about the movie before it came out, and after making its way into Google's search results, whenever some bum searches for 'Watch Beefest for free' or something akin to that, the Shul of Rock comes up. This post isn't going to help the situation.

Just a word to all you lazy copyright violators out there: Keep it coming! If I ever decide to put up ads on the site, I'll make some dough from all your traffic! But don't worry y'all. We're staying ad free for now.

Jess Fink

I'm a bit of a t-shirt whore. I can't stop adding colourful pieces of cotton to my evergrowing closet. I just ordered a new shirt from Threadless.com, featuring the image above. I know, it's kind of weird, but it's such a sweet image, and I know that when I wear it, I'll feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Besides, with the Canadian dollar up, plus an online coupon, the shirt cost less than $12 (CDN) before shipping. If you like the cutesy design, check out artist Jess Fink's website at Jessfink.com . Fink is a designer and artist, and she often dabbles in comics too.

In other news, the Shul of Rock is up to 19,547 visitors! Let's pump it to 20 k, people!
